Star Trek: "Tales of the USS Bluefin" chronicles the adventures of the captain and crew of the USS Bluefin (NCC-4458), an Albacore-class border cutter assigned to Starfleet's Border Service. The time is the immediate post-Dominion War period, circa Earth year 2376 and following. The 70 year-old cutter Bluefin continues to see service due to the horrific losses of Star Fleet vessels during the war.

The Border Service, a separate branch of Starfleet, performs duties similar to the U.S. Coast Guard - search & rescue, interdiction of smuggling, and a deterrence against Orion pirates, Klingon privateers and other unsavory types that ply the spaceways near the Molari Badlands. We will encounter hard working boomers, idealistic colonists, and some new, sinister elements as well. The Border Service motto, "Semper Paratus," is derived from the U.S. Coast Guard motto, "Always Ready." The Bluefin's slogan is: "We have to go out - we don't have to come back."

Captain Joseph B. Akinola has served on the Bluefin for over 25 years, eleven as her commanding officer. Bluefin primarily patrols the Borderland region where Federation, Klingon and Orion space come together. Due to instability following the Dominion War, the crew of the Bluefin is sometimes called upon for escort and SAR missions far from her normal patrol area.

Please feel free to post comments or ask questions about the Bluefin saga, whether about the stories, the ship or any of the crew members.

Hi Lone Red Shirt,
In my upcoming chapter of "The Double Edge" I'd like to reference the Bluefin.
Would it work to say the Bluefin was on patrol near the Romula border in 2374 (Just before the attack on Betazed?)

Aubrey will make reference to transfering Ferringi smugglers that he arrests to the Bluefin, who will take them to Starbase 39-Sierra.

I know your series begins in 2376 or thereabouts, but the Bluefin is in service prior to that.
This would be passing mention only, so there's no need to discuss officers or crew.

If this dosen't work for you, can you recommend another cutter ship to be mentioned?

Thank in advance.

Galen4

While I would be happy for you to give the Bluefin a mention, she is stationed near the Klingon border and not the Romulan border. Some Apollo-class cutters are assigned to the Romulan border, among them the Achilles, Hercules and Zeus. See my entry on "Ships of the Border Service circa 2377" for a complete listing of those cutters.

Aha, thanks.
I'll use one from the Apollo class, perhaps.
Thanks.
